Commissioned by the voice artist Yvon Bonenfant (University of Winchester), the graphic score was made in response to The Plague Mass by Diamanda Galas. Intended to be read by hand and eye, the tactile element is embedded in both the materials and process of drawing.
Divided into two parts: the first explores the pattern of voice and breath using the removed touch of a typewriter; part two examines the patina of the Mass, creating fragile unstable surfaces, which are hyper sensitive to contact. The protective archival presentation of the manuscripts, choreographs the movement of the hands and promotes an awareness and delicacy of touch.
The score will be translated back into sound by the composer Will Edmondes.
